What To Expect At Your Edmonton Chiropractic Appointment

Chiropractic is a partnership.

We’d like to get to know you, and we’d like you to know more about your visits, so you feel comfortable with the care you have chosen.

First Visit: Initial Consultation

After completing some brief paperwork which describes you, your health history and health goals, you’ll meet with your Chiropractor and get to know each other. If you’re a good candidate for chiropractic care and we think we can help, an examination to discover the possible cause of your health problem(s) will follow. The examination is painless, and includes a scan of your spine and vertebral column to check for areas of impaired nerve functioning. If further diagnostic images or Xrays are required we will refer you to a diagnostic imaging clinic that is convenient for you. Diagnostic Xrays (if needed) are covered by Alberta Health Care, and can usually be completed on a walk in, same day basis.

Second visit: Report of Findings

Prior to your second visit, your Chiropractor will study the results of the examination from the Initial consultation and prepare a detailed “Report of Findings”. He or she will meet with you to show you what was found in the examination, and recommend a program of chiropractic care which meets your specific needs. If your chiropractor thinks you would benefit from consulting a different practitioner, he or she will make the proper referral.

When will I have my first adjustment?

This will vary depending on your injury or heatlh problem and whether additional images (XRays) are required. Whenever possible Chiropractors like to begin treatment soon, to get you on the road to health quickly.

How soon can I expect results?

Every patient recovers at their own pace. Depending on the nature of the problem, it is possible for some patients to experience immediate relief. Others discover that the healing process can take several days, or even weeks. Remember that it is often a lifetime of accumulated spinal stress contributing to your problem. Factors which can affect the healing process include your overall health condition, your age, muscle tone, diet and lifestyle, and in some cases even attitude towards healing.
